Cole Palmer squandered an unbelievable opportunity in the dying seconds, denying Chelsea a victory that seemed within reach against Leeds United in the 26th round of the English Premier League. The Blues were held to a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge after Palmer missed the most dangerous chance of the match in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time.
The miss came after he received a pass inside the penalty area, finding himself with an almost empty net just a few meters away, but he inexplicably fired the ball over the crossbar, much to the astonishment of the fans. The chance quickly became a hot topic on social media, with many considering it one of the strangest missed opportunities of the season, and perhaps even in Premier League history.
Some fans commented that scoring the goal would have been easier than missing it, while others felt the miss cost the team two valuable points in the race for European qualification.
Despite this lapse, Palmer was one of Chelsea's standout players in the match, setting up the first goal and scoring the second from the penalty spot.
He also continued his impressive form for the second week running, following his hat-trick in the previous round against Wolverhampton.
However, the draw ended Chelsea's four-match winning streak in the league and impacted their chances of securing a European qualification spot.
The team currently sits in fifth place, one point behind Manchester United, while Leeds earned a valuable point that keeps them in fifteenth place, six points clear of the relegation zone.
