FC Cincinnati delivered one of the most emphatic performances in recent CONCACAF history, dismantling O&M FC 9-0 on the night to complete a staggering 13-0 aggregate victory in the first round of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Having already secured a 4-0 away win in Santiago de los Caballeros on 18 February, the MLS side removed any doubt with a ruthless home display that underlined both their attacking depth and competitive intent. The result propels Cincinnati into a Round of 16 clash with Mexican heavyweights Tigres UANL — a significant step up in calibre.
Kenji Mboma Dem set the tone in the 18th minute, capitalising on a precise entry pass from Obinna Nwobodo to finish calmly from close range. The early breakthrough reflected Cincinnati’s structural superiority: vertical transitions, quick central combinations and aggressive pressing in advanced areas.
By halftime, the contest was effectively over.
Goals from Gerardo Valenzuela (27’) and Tom Barlow (35’) bookended an own goal by Gabriel Castillo, pushing the score to 4-0 on the night and 8-0 on aggregate. The gulf in pace, physicality and tactical cohesion between the sides was evident throughout the opening 45 minutes.
Rather than easing off, Cincinnati intensified their dominance after the break. Ademar Chavez struck in the 48th minute, Mboma Dem completed his brace in the 58th, and further goals from Stiven Jimenez (68’), Alvas Powell (78’) and Stefan Chirila (86’) extended the margin to nine.
The match evolved into a demonstration of squad depth and attacking rotation, with multiple contributors finding space against a stretched and fatigued O&M defence.
The visitors’ difficult evening worsened when second-half substitute Hector Ramirez was shown a straight red card in the 82nd minute, compounding an already lopsided encounter.
While the aggregate scoreline is historic in scale, Cincinnati’s true test lies ahead. A 13-0 series win highlights clinical finishing and professional focus, but the upcoming tie against Tigres UANL will demand far greater defensive concentration and transitional discipline.
From a performance perspective, however, this series served its purpose:
In continental competitions, professionalism in early rounds often separates contenders from complacent sides. FC Cincinnati not only avoided complacency — they delivered a statement.
The challenge now shifts from overwhelming a regional underdog to matching one of Liga MX’s most established powers.
