Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane set to miss Gladbach clash with minor calf injury

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane will miss Friday’s Bundesliga fixture against Borussia Mönchengladbach after sustaining a minor calf injury, head coach Vincent Kompany confirmed on Thursday.

The England captain has been in exceptional form this season and scored twice in Bayern’s 3–2 victory away at Borussia Dortmund last week—a result that extended the Bundesliga leaders’ advantage at the top of the table to 11 points.

Kompany explained that the injury is not considered serious but that Kane is unlikely to recover in time for the upcoming match.

“He took a knock to his calf and has not fully recovered yet,” Kompany told reporters during a press conference. “It’s just a knock, nothing serious for the near future, but we may be a day short of him being able to play.

“We’re pretty relaxed about it, but obviously we would have liked Harry to be there.”

Kane has been a key figure in Bayern’s domestic campaign, equalling a Bundesliga record by scoring at least twice in four consecutive matches. The 32-year-old has already netted 30 goals in 24 league appearances this season.

The prolific striker is also chasing the Bundesliga’s single-season scoring record of 41 goals, currently held by former Bayern forward Robert Lewandowski. In addition, Kane recently matched another league record after successfully converting his 10th penalty of the campaign.

Bayern will also be without defenders Hiroki Ito and Alphonso Davies, both sidelined as the German champions prepare for a demanding run of fixtures. The club travel to Italy next week to face Atalanta in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 tie.

Despite Bayern’s commanding position at the top of the Bundesliga standings, Kompany warned against complacency. The Bavarian side currently sit on 63 points, with Borussia Dortmund second on 52 and Hoffenheim third on 46.

“We’ve had an 11-point lead before and we know how quickly that can change,” the Belgian coach said. “We only focus on our performance and our wins. I glanced at the table once after the Dortmund game, and it looked good—but after that, only Gladbach mattered again.”
