Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has received a one-match suspension and an £8,000 fine after confronting match officials following his side’s defeat to Manchester City, the The Football Association confirmed on Friday.
The disciplinary action stems from an incident that occurred immediately after Leeds’ 1-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League last month. Following the final whistle, Farke entered the field of play and approached the referee in protest, an action that resulted in him being shown a red card.
According to Leeds assistant manager Edmund Riemer, the German coach’s remarks towards the officials were considered “too aggressive,” contributing to the decision taken by the referee.
In a statement outlining the sanction, the FA said the charge related to a breach of the game’s disciplinary regulations.
“It was alleged that the manager entered the field of play at full-time to confront the match official/s, contrary to Law 12 of the Laws of the Game,” the governing body said.
“Daniel Farke subsequently admitted the charge against him and accepted the standard one-match suspension and £8,000 fine.”
Leeds currently sit 15th in the Premier League standings and will next turn their attention to the fifth round of the FA Cup, where they are scheduled to host Norwich City on Sunday.
The fixture carries added personal significance for Farke, who previously managed Norwich City before taking charge at Leeds.
