Robert Lewandowski is nearing the end of his time at Barcelona as his contract expires this season, and the Polish striker's future in 2026-2027 is shrouded in mystery.
Doubts surround Lewandowski's future after it became clear that Barcelona's management wanted to bolster the squad with a young, high-caliber striker capable of meeting the team's needs, given Lewandowski's declining performance due to his age.
Previous reports have mentioned several names as potential signings for Barcelona, most notably Argentinian Julián Álvarez, the Atlético Madrid striker.
According to Cadena SER radio, Barcelona may renew Lewandowski's contract for at least one more season, with a significant pay cut. The report also stated that the club wants to give him a new role in the coming period, given his vast experience and in recognition of his illustrious career with Barcelona.
It indicated that the veteran striker would have to accept a substitute role, playing a limited number of minutes and scoring at any point in matches, as he would help the new striker adapt.
Polish journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk hinted at Barcelona's stance on Robert Lewandowski's future in comments published by the Spanish newspaper "Sport," saying, "I think his future will be clarified and decided in April, and his contract will be extended for one year." He continued, "First and foremost, because Robert wants it, and we assume that Laporta and Deco also want it. Lewandowski feels very comfortable in Spain, and there are important personal matters at stake. Money is probably not a decisive factor."
He emphasized, "Lewandowski is more likely to stay at Barcelona. There's something more important that fans might overlook or not prioritize: life itself, the importance of family, and his children starting school in Barcelona."
He concluded, "The Saudi Arabian option is very hot these days. Moving abroad would require extremely complex logistical arrangements."
The Polish striker shone for Barcelona against Newcastle United, scoring two goals in the Blaugrana's 7-2 victory in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16.
