Sevilla Dismiss Almeyda Amid Ongoing LaLiga Struggles

Sevilla FC have parted ways with head coach Matias Almeyda following a disappointing run of results that has left the club hovering just above the relegation zone in LaLiga.

The Andalusian side, seven-time winners of the UEFA Europa League, currently sit 15th in the table—only three points clear of danger—prompting swift action from club leadership. In a brief official statement, Sevilla confirmed Almeyda’s dismissal and expressed appreciation for his efforts since taking charge.

“Matias Almeyda has been relieved of his duties as Sevilla FC first team head coach,” the club announced, while also thanking the 52-year-old and his staff for their professionalism and commitment.

Almeyda’s tenure proved short-lived, having only joined the club in July on a three-year contract. His departure reflects the urgency within the club to stabilise performances and avoid being drawn deeper into a relegation battle.

Notably, Sevilla have yet to announce a successor or interim appointment, leaving uncertainty around leadership heading into the international break—a period often used by clubs to restructure and reset.

Almeyda, a former Argentina international, began his managerial career with River Plate in 2011 before gaining further experience in Europe with AEK Athens, where he managed from 2022 to 2025 prior to his move to Spain.

Sevilla must now act decisively in appointing a new manager, with the club’s immediate priority being to halt their slide and secure their LaLiga status for next season.
