Kudus Injury Blow: Tottenham Star Faces Race Against Time for World Cup

Tottenham Hotspur forward Mohammed Kudus is facing a major setback in his recovery from a quad injury, raising serious doubts over his participation in this summer’s World Cup.

The 25-year-old Ghana international was initially expected to return in March after sustaining the injury during a clash against Sunderland in January, when Thomas Frank was still in charge. However, Kudus failed to feature under Frank’s successor, Igor Tudor, and his recovery has now taken a concerning turn.

Tottenham confirmed the latest update in an official statement, revealing the attacker may require further medical intervention.

“We can confirm that Mohammed Kudus has suffered a setback in his return from injury,” the club said. “He had returned to team training during the past week, however will now require further specialist review and, potentially, surgery.”

Reports from Ghana suggest Kudus could be sidelined for up to three more months — a timeline that would put his availability for the June-July World Cup in serious jeopardy.

Kudus, who joined Spurs from West Ham United ahead of the season, has made 19 Premier League appearances, registering two goals and five assists. On the international stage, he has scored 13 goals in 46 appearances for Ghana.

Tottenham’s struggles add further context to the situation. Now under new head coach Roberto De Zerbi, Spurs sit 17th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone, and face Sunderland away on Sunday in what will be De Zerbi’s first game in charge.

Meanwhile, Ghana are also dealing with instability after parting ways with head coach Otto Addo just 72 days before the tournament. The Black Stars are set to compete in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama at the World Cup, which kicks off on June 11 across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
