Bruno Guimaraes closing in on Newcastle return ahead of Bournemouth clash

Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes is nearing a long-awaited return from injury, with manager Eddie Howe hinting the midfielder could feature against Bournemouth in Saturday’s Premier League clash.

The Brazilian has been sidelined for two months with a hamstring injury, but is now pushing hard to get back on the pitch. Howe confirmed a late decision will be made following training.

“The medical team are trying to hold him back… but there’s always that pull because the player is desperate to play,” Howe said. “I love that with Bruno. I’ll make a decision after training, but there is a chance.”

Key boost for Newcastle’s top-four ambitions

Guimaraes’ return would be a major lift for Newcastle as they continue their push for a strong Premier League finish. The 28-year-old has been instrumental this season, leading the club’s scoring charts in the league with nine goals.

His absence has been felt both domestically and internationally, having missed Brazil’s recent friendlies against France and Croatia ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

Before his injury, Guimaraes’ impressive form had also attracted interest from European giants, with Real Madrid and Manchester United reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

Transfer speculation surrounds key Newcastle stars

Guimaraes is not the only Newcastle player drawing attention. England forward Anthony Gordon—who has scored 10 goals in this season’s Champions League—has been linked with Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Despite growing transfer speculation, Howe insists his focus remains on maintaining full commitment within the squad.

“The biggest thing I look for is commitment in training,” Howe explained. “I won’t pick a player if I don’t think they’re 100% committed to the club and its future.”

He added that external noise is part of the game at the highest level and should not impact performances.

“When players are high profile, they’re always in the news. It comes with the territory,” he said. “You have to adapt, stay focused, and perform. At this level, that’s expected.”
