Manchester United interim boss Michael Carrick has insisted he will not be distracted by the Premier League’s managerial merry-go-round, as he balances the pursuit of immediate results with a clear long-term vision for the club.
Carrick’s comments come amid another turbulent season in England’s top flight, with Liam Rosenior’s exit from Chelsea on Wednesday becoming the 10th managerial departure of the campaign. Despite the instability around him, the 44-year-old remains firmly focused on building something sustainable at Old Trafford.
Appointed in January following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, Carrick has quickly steadied United, guiding them into a strong position in the race for Champions League qualification.
Speaking on Thursday, Carrick emphasised the importance of striking the right balance between short-term success and future planning.
“There are two sides to it,” Carrick said. “There are instant results and the next game being important, but there’s definitely a responsibility to think about what the future looks like and the bigger picture.”
He also underlined his positive outlook despite the uncertainty that often surrounds managerial roles.
“There are all sorts of what-ifs in this world. Half full, half empty? I like to live my life in a positive way. I don’t think of what could go wrong — it’s about what can be achieved and what success looks like.”
Manchester United have thrived under Carrick’s leadership, winning eight and drawing two of their 12 matches since his appointment. The resurgence has lifted them to third in the Premier League table.
With five games remaining, just six more points would be enough to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-year absence — a key milestone in the club’s rebuilding process.
United’s push for a top-four finish continues on Monday when they host Brentford, with momentum firmly on their side as Carrick continues to impress both in results and long-term direction.
