Oliver Kahn sparked controversy with controversial comments about the workings at Real Madrid, amid growing speculation about Jürgen Klopp potentially taking over as manager.
During an appearance on Sky Germany, the legendary former Bayern Munich goalkeeper expressed reservations about the idea, pointing to a potential gap between Klopp's coaching philosophy and the environment at the Spanish club. Kahn said, "I don't know if I would take this step if I were Jürgen Klopp. Does Real Madrid suit his style? Upon closer examination, Klopp is a coach who prefers gradual development and team building."
He added, explaining, "Klopp works within a well-defined system, while Real Madrid is completely different. It has a group of stars with strong personalities who don't easily accept rigid tactical ideas being imposed on them."
In closing, Kahn cited past experiences, saying: "We saw that with Xabi Alonso. Ultimately, it's about how well a coach can command respect in the dressing room, communicate with the players, manage the big stars, and convince them of the system he wants to implement."
