Michael Carrick is on the verge of being appointed Manchester United’s permanent manager after transforming the club’s season since taking charge earlier this year.
The 44-year-old stepped in as interim boss in January following the turbulent departure of Ruben Amorim and has since guided the Red Devils back into the Champions League with three Premier League matches still remaining.
Carrick has overseen a remarkable turnaround at Old Trafford, winning 10 of his 15 matches across all competitions and suffering just two defeats since his appointment on January 13.
Under his leadership, United have climbed from seventh to third in the Premier League table, reigniting optimism around the club after two consecutive seasons outside Europe’s top competition.
According to reports from The Athletic, chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox are expected to recommend Carrick’s permanent appointment to co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe during an executive meeting later this week.
Although Manchester United explored alternative managerial candidates, Carrick has consistently remained the leading contender for the role. Several first-team players have also publicly backed the former midfielder to take charge permanently.
The growing expectation surrounding his appointment has already impacted the betting markets, with some bookmakers suspending betting on Carrick becoming United’s next full-time manager.
Carrick is expected to address the media on Friday ahead of Manchester United’s final home game of the season against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
