Pep Guardiola to Leave Manchester City After Historic Trophy-Laden Era

Pep Guardiola will leave Manchester City after 10 years in charge, bringing an end to one of the most successful managerial eras in Premier League history.

Manchester City confirmed on Thursday that the 55-year-old Spaniard will step down following Sunday’s final game of the season against Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola departs after transforming City into a dominant force in English and European football, winning 17 major trophies during his decade at the club. His remarkable spell includes six Premier League titles in 10 seasons, cementing his legacy as one of football’s greatest managers.

Speaking after the announcement, Guardiola admitted the decision came from within.

“Don’t ask me the reasons I’m leaving,” Guardiola said. “There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time.

“Nothing is eternal, if it was, I would be here. Eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, the love I have for my Manchester City.”

Reports earlier this week indicated City had already begun preparations for Guardiola’s exit, despite the manager still having one year remaining on his contract.

Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Guardiola. Maresca previously worked under the Spaniard as part of Manchester City’s coaching staff before moving into management.

The announcement comes just days after City surrendered the Premier League title to Arsenal. A draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday confirmed the Gunners as champions for the first time in 22 years, ending City’s dominance at the top of English football.

Guardiola’s final match in charge will now carry added emotional significance as Manchester City fans prepare to say farewell to the manager who delivered the most successful period in the club’s history.
