USA World Cup Squad Revealed: Gio Reyna Included as Pochettino Makes Bold Calls

The United States have officially unveiled their 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with head coach Mauricio Pochettino making several eye-catching selections ahead of the tournament on home soil.

The squad announcement, revealed during a Fox event in New York on Tuesday, confirmed the inclusion of key USMNT stars such as Christian Pulisic, Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie, who are expected to lead the Americans into a highly anticipated World Cup campaign.

Pulisic arrives after another strong season with AC Milan, while Bournemouth captain Adams and Juventus midfielder McKennie remain central figures in Pochettino’s plans.

However, a number of surprise decisions have sparked debate among supporters.

Gio Reyna Earns World Cup Spot Despite Limited USMNT Role

One of the biggest talking points was the inclusion of Gio Reyna. The 23-year-old midfielder secured his place in the squad despite not starting a match for the United States since December.

Reyna’s selection appears to have come at the expense of Lyon midfielder Tanner Tessmann, who was omitted despite being expected to recover from his recent muscle strain before the World Cup begins.

Another notable inclusion is Club America midfielder Alejandro Zendejas. The 28-year-old seemingly edged out Real Salt Lake’s Diego Luna for one of the final attacking spots in the squad.

USA Aim for Strong Home World Cup Campaign

The United States enter the tournament ranked 16th in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings. The USMNT have consistently remained between 11th and 18th in the world since 2021.

Pochettino’s side will compete in Group D and begin their World Cup campaign against Paraguay on June 12 in Inglewood, California.

The Americans will then face Australia on June 19 in Seattle before concluding the group stage against Turkiye on June 25, once again in Inglewood.

Before the tournament begins, the USMNT will play two final warm-up friendlies against Senegal on May 31 in Charlotte and Germany on June 6 in Chicago.
