Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte has been included in Uruguay's 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but veteran striker Luis Suarez has been left out by head coach Marcelo Bielsa.
Ugarte is one of three Premier League-based players selected for the tournament, alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Santiago Bueno and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.
The most notable omission is Suarez, with the 39-year-old failing to make the final squad despite recently suggesting he would consider reversing his international retirement if called upon.
The former Liverpool and Barcelona forward has not represented Uruguay for almost two years.
Bielsa has, however, retained faith in former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.
The forward has endured a frustrating spell at Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, where he has not featured since February after the club altered its foreign-player registrations following the arrival of Karim Benzema.
Uruguay will begin their World Cup campaign in Group H against Saudi Arabia on 15 June.
They will then face Cape Verde before concluding the group stage against Spain.
