Bologna Appoint Domenico Tedesco as New Head Coach Following Vincenzo Italiano Exit

Serie A side Bologna have officially appointed Domenico Tedesco as their new head coach, replacing Vincenzo Italiano, who departed the club last week.

The Rossoblu confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, announcing that Tedesco has signed a two-year contract with an option to extend his stay by a further season.

"Bologna announces that it has appointed Domenico Tedesco as first team technical director," the club said in an official statement.

The 40-year-old coach arrives after a brief spell with Turkish giants Fenerbahce, where he succeeded Jose Mourinho but left after less than a season in charge.

Tedesco brings extensive experience from across Europe, having previously managed Schalke 04, Spartak Moscow and RB Leipzig. His most notable achievement came with Leipzig, where he guided the club to German Cup success in 2022.

The dual Italian-German national also spent two years as head coach of the Belgium national team, further strengthening his managerial credentials ahead of his return to Italian football.

Although born in Italy, Tedesco moved to Germany at the age of two and built both his playing and coaching career there. His surname, fittingly, translates to "German" in Italian.

Tedesco's arrival comes amid a busy summer of managerial changes in Serie A. Bologna, Napoli, AC Milan and Lazio are all set to begin the new season under new leadership, while Atalanta and Fiorentina could also join the coaching reshuffle.

Meanwhile, former Bologna boss Italiano is among the leading candidates to replace Antonio Conte at Napoli should the reigning Serie A champions decide to make a change on the touchline.
