Liverpool Close In on Andoni Iraola as Arne Slot Successor

Liverpool are in advanced negotiations with former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola as they move quickly to appoint a new head coach following the dismissal of Arne Slot.

Iraola, who left Bournemouth at the end of the season, has emerged as the leading candidate to take charge at Anfield. The Reds are eager to finalise an appointment as soon as possible and are prioritising a coach whose philosophy aligns with their desire for aggressive, attacking football.

The 43-year-old Spaniard is understood to be keen on bringing trusted assistant Tommy Elphick with him should he secure the role.

While Liverpool have not yet made contact regarding potential additions to Iraola's backroom staff, BBC Sport understands that Elphick would be interested in the opportunity. The former Bournemouth captain, a lifelong Liverpool supporter, recently turned down the chance to become Bristol City manager as he weighs up his next move.

Liverpool's search is being overseen by sporting director Richard Hughes, who previously worked alongside Iraola during their time at Bournemouth.

The Merseyside club parted ways with Slot on Saturday, just one year after the Dutchman guided Liverpool to the Premier League title.

With talks progressing, Liverpool appear to be closing in on a manager widely regarded as one of the brightest coaching talents in European football.
