Algeria Extend Petkovic Deal Until 2028

Algeria have handed head coach Vladimir Petkovic a contract extension until 2028, strengthening their commitment to the Swiss manager just days before the start of the World Cup.

The 62-year-old has been in charge of the Desert Foxes since 2024, when he was appointed following Algeria's disappointing first-round exit at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Algerian Football Federation praised Petkovic's impact, saying he had delivered impressive results since taking over the national team.

According to the federation, Algeria have won 21 matches, drawn four and lost only three under his leadership, a record that has restored confidence around the squad ahead of the tournament.

Petkovic will now lead Algeria into Group J at the World Cup, where they will face reigning champions Argentina, Austria and Jordan.

Before taking charge of Algeria, Petkovic managed Switzerland from 2014 to 2021.

He also enjoyed success at club level, winning the Italian Cup with Roma in 2013.

The new deal ensures Algeria will continue with Petkovic beyond the World Cup as they look to build long-term stability under his guidance.
