Nottingham Forest Appoint Oliver Glasner as Fifth Head Coach in Under a Year

Nottingham Forest Appoint Oliver Glasner as Fifth Head Coach in Under a Year

Nottingham Forest have appointed former Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner as their new head coach, becoming the club's fifth permanent manager in less than a year.

The 51-year-old Austrian replaces Vitor Pereira, who was dismissed on Tuesday just minutes before an exit clause in his contract was due to expire.

Marinakis: 'Oliver Is a Winner'

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis welcomed Glasner's arrival, praising the former Crystal Palace manager's winning mentality and long-term vision.

"Oliver is a winner.

"It was clear that we share the same vision, the same ambition and the same relentless desire to succeed."

Forest had initiated contact with Glasner earlier this summer after he left Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

Proven Trophy Winner

Glasner arrives at the City Ground with an impressive résumé.

He guided Crystal Palace to the FA Cup in his first season, securing the club's first major trophy, before leading them to UEFA Europa Conference League success the following campaign. Palace also lifted the Community Shield, defeating Liverpool on penalties.

Before his spell at Selhurst Park, Glasner led Eintracht Frankfurt to the 2021-22 Europa League title, making him one of only three managers to have won both the Europa League and Europa Conference League.

Having announced in January that he was seeking a new challenge despite being offered a contract extension, Glasner now begins a fresh chapter at Forest.

Glasner Excited by Forest Project

The Austrian said the club's ambition and faith in his coaching staff convinced him to take the job.

"From my very first conversations with the owner and the leadership team, it was evident that they have a clear vision for this football club and complete trust and belief in me and my staff to build a strong future together over the long term.

"That trust and shared commitment, together with the potential that I see within the squad, were key factors for me, and I am excited about what we can achieve together."

Forest Continue Managerial Carousel

Glasner becomes Forest's fourth managerial appointment since the start of last season.

Nuno Espirito Santo began the campaign in charge before spells under Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche, and most recently Vitor Pereira.

Pereira, who took over in February, guided Forest to 16th place in the Premier League, finishing five points above the relegation zone, while also leading the club to the Europa League semi-finals, where they were eliminated by eventual champions Aston Villa.

Although Pereira still had a year remaining on his contract, talks over a new deal had stalled despite his involvement in discussions over the club's summer transfer plans.

Can Glasner Bring Stability?

Glasner arrives with a reputation as one of Europe's most accomplished coaches, but he also steps into one of English football's most volatile managerial environments.

Pereira lasted 133 days, Sean Dyche managed 114 days, while Ange Postecoglou remained in charge for just 39 days. Nuno Espirito Santo was dismissed only three matches into last season following reported disagreements with the club's hierarchy.

Glasner has also experienced tensions with ownership before, publicly stating earlier this year that he and his Crystal Palace squad felt they had been "abandoned completely" by the club's hierarchy.

Forest will hope his proven ability to build winning teams can finally bring the stability the club has lacked, while Marinakis will expect the Austrian to challenge for honours and establish Forest among England's leading clubs once again.
