Fifteen-year-old JJ Gabriel took another significant step in his promising career after making his senior debut for Manchester United during their 2-1 pre-season victory over Atletico Madrid in Stockholm.
Introduced for the final eight minutes, the highly-rated academy prospect quickly experienced the physical demands of senior football.
His first touch was immediately followed by a heavy challenge from Atletico and Uruguay defender Jose Maria Gimenez, sending the youngster to the turf.
Gabriel quickly recovered, brushed himself off and continued confidently.
Initially operating in the number 10 role before drifting to the right flank, Gabriel showed flashes of his ability despite understandable nerves.
He twice struggled to control accurate passes from Mason Mount before cutting inside and seeing a shot blocked.
The teenager also linked up neatly with defender Leny Yoro before winning a foul inside the penalty area after being bundled over by a much stronger opponent.
Although it was only a brief cameo, Gabriel handled the occasion with maturity.
Considering most players his age are preparing to begin their GCSE studies, his senior debut marked a proud milestone.
"It's a really good moment for him," Yoro said after the match.
"He's still very young and has a lot to learn, but he's humble and works hard. I'm happy he got his first minutes, and I hope it's just the beginning."
Yoro knows exactly what Gabriel is experiencing, having made his own senior debut for Lille at just 16 years and six months old.
"I can see myself in him," the French defender added.
"I hope he keeps learning because he's a really talented player."
Amad Diallo also returned to club duty following his World Cup campaign with Ivory Coast, bringing renewed expectations after an impressive international summer.
Despite Ivory Coast's early exit in the last 32, Amad scored twice at the tournament, matching the total he managed throughout the entire Premier League season.
Combined with his three goals at the Africa Cup of Nations, his international form has been far stronger than his recent club performances.
Against Atletico, Amad displayed his work rate from the right side of United's attack, frequently tracking back to regain possession.
However, one misplaced flick towards Yoro contributed to the sequence that led to Atletico's opening goal after United conceded a corner.
Going forward, he remained one of United's brighter attacking outlets.
Jan Oblak denied his deflected free-kick, while his excellent close control and vision created promising opportunities for teammates, including an overlapping run from Yoro and the move that eventually saw Lacey cross for Bryan Mbeumo, whose header drifted wide.
It was an encouraging first appearance of pre-season, but Amad will know greater consistency will be required after a difficult campaign last term.
Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir appears increasingly likely to leave Old Trafford this summer, with Spanish side Celta Vigo among the clubs interested in signing the Turkey international.
The arrival of Welsh goalkeeper Karl Darlow has pushed Bayindir further down the pecking order, and although he travelled with the squad to Sweden, he did not feature against Atletico.
Instead, the 28-year-old completed an extended training session before kick-off.
No agreement has yet been reached with Celta Vigo, while several other clubs are also monitoring his situation after a proposed move to Besiktas failed to materialise in January.
