Brentford have completed the signing of Mali international Mamadou Sangare from Lens for a club-record transfer fee.
The 24-year-old central midfielder has signed a five-year contract, with the Bees holding the option to extend his stay by a further year.
While the club did not disclose the transfer fee, they confirmed it exceeds the £42.5 million they paid Bournemouth for Dango Ouattara last summer, making Sangare the most expensive signing in Brentford's history.
Head coach Keith Andrews revealed the club had been monitoring Sangare for a long time and believes he is an ideal addition to the squad.
"Mamadou is someone we've tracked for quite some time," Andrews said.
"He had an outstanding season at Lens after developing through a number of loan spells."
"He performed consistently for a side that finished second in the league and also became a key player for Mali."
Sangare made 33 appearances for Lens last season after arriving from Rapid Vienna.
The midfielder began his career at Red Bull Salzburg before gaining valuable experience through several loan moves.
His impressive displays for Austrian side Hartberg earned him a transfer to Rapid Vienna, which eventually led to his move to France.
On the international stage, Sangare has earned 16 caps for Mali and represented his country at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Andrews also praised the midfielder's character, saying: "From the conversations I've had with him, he's eager to be here."
"He's humble, determined and fits everything we want from a Brentford player both on and off the pitch."
