Chelsea have completed the signing of experienced striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton, with the England international signing a two-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Neither club has disclosed the transfer fee for the 35-year-old, who becomes Chelsea's third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa and Marco Palestra from Atalanta.
Welbeck joins the Blues after enjoying the most prolific Premier League season of his career.
He scored 13 league goals in 37 appearances for Brighton last campaign, with only three English players finding the net more often.
Speaking after completing the move, Welbeck said he was thrilled to join the West London club.
"When you hear of the interest from Chelsea, it's something that fills you with immense pride," he said.
"I already know a few of the boys and have had fantastic conversations with the manager. I can already feel that connection.
"I've still got that fire in my belly and I'm ready to give everything for this club and make the supporters proud."
Welbeck's arrival marks a notable shift in Chelsea's recruitment strategy.
Since the club's takeover in 2022, the Blues have largely focused on signing young, high-potential talent.
Bringing in a seasoned Premier League striker signals a desire to add leadership and experience to Xabi Alonso's squad.
The move also increases competition in attack, where Joao Pedro is currently regarded as Chelsea's first-choice striker.
Liam Delap, Emmanuel Emegha, Marc Guiu and Nicolas Jackson are also on the club's books, leaving uncertainty over who could depart before the transfer window closes.
Welbeck began his professional career at Manchester United before joining Arsenal in a £16 million move in 2014.
After five years in North London, he spent a season at Watford before moving to Brighton in 2020, where he became one of the Seagulls' most reliable performers.
Internationally, the striker has scored 16 goals in 42 appearances for England, although he was not included in Thomas Tuchel's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
While his age may surprise some supporters, Welbeck offers qualities Chelsea's current forwards have lacked.
Last season, his 13 Premier League goals came from 12.5 expected goals, highlighting his efficiency in front of goal.
His movement, intelligent link-up play and relentless work rate have remained key strengths, with his ability to stretch defences and create opportunities making him a valuable tactical option.
Welbeck also excelled without the ball, averaging 32 pressures per 90 minutes in the final third, fitting perfectly into Alonso's high-pressing system.
Combined with his durability - making 37 league appearances last season - he provides Chelsea with a dependable and experienced attacking option.
