England international Ivan Toney has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm following an alleged incident at a nightclub in central London.
The 30-year-old striker, who plays for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, was charged on 31 July in connection with an incident on Wardour Street in Soho on 6 December.
Toney is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 24 September to face the charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.
A spokesperson for the former Brentford forward said Toney acknowledges the charge and intends to clear his name through the legal process.
“Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court,” the spokesperson said.
Toney recently represented England at the World Cup, where he was a surprise inclusion in the squad.
The striker started England's dramatic 6-4 victory over France in the World Cup bronze final last month. His only other appearance at the tournament came as a late substitute in the 2-1 semi-final defeat to Argentina.
Toney began his professional career with Northampton Town before going on to have permanent spells with Newcastle United, Peterborough United and Brentford.
He established himself as a leading Premier League striker during his time at Brentford before leaving the club to join Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia in 2024.
The England international is now scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 24 September in relation to the charge.
