The English Premier League broke its transfer spending record for the second consecutive summer season, with clubs spending a total of approximately £3.46 billion. The spending spree in England continued until the final hours of the transfer window on Tuesday evening, with several major deals completed before it closed at 11 pm local time.
Manchester City topped the list of highest-spending English clubs after completing their activity by signing Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for a fee estimated at around £125 million, equalling the British record. City also acquired Senegalese winger Eliamin Ndiaye from Everton for approximately £65 million.
In addition to the Fernandez deal, three other transfers exceeded £100 million in value.
Manchester City signed English midfielder Elliott Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116 million, while Morgan Rodgers moved from Aston Villa to Chelsea for £117 million. Liverpool agreed to pay £107 million as an initial fee for French striker Bradley Barkola from Paris Saint-Germain, with the potential for the deal to rise to £123 million.
Tottenham Hotspur broke their transfer record by signing Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United in a deal that could reach £100 million.
The current summer transfer window saw four of the 11 most expensive deals in Premier League history: the transfers of Fernandes, Anderson, Rodgers, and Barkola.
Manchester City topped the list of highest spenders with a total of £458 million, as new manager Enzo Maresca worked to build his first squad.
Chelsea also spent lavishly, with their transfer spending reaching £349 million to support new manager Xabi Alonso.
Tottenham spent £303 million as part of a rebuilding process after two consecutive seasons in which they narrowly avoided relegation.
According to Transfermarkt, newly promoted clubs Ipswich Town, Coventry City, and Hull City spent over £400 million combined in preparation for the Premier League.
Premier League clubs surpassed the £3 billion mark in the 2025 summer transfer window for the first time, while total spending just five years prior was £1.13 billion.
