Coventry City secured their first Premier League points of the season with a determined 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
The newly promoted Sky Blues had lost their opening four matches without scoring, conceding 10 goals following their return to the top flight for the first time since the 2000-01 season.
Forest controlled much of the first half but struggled to create clear opportunities.
Dan Ndoye and Liam Delap both curled efforts wide, while Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth produced a smart save to deny Neco Williams.
Frank Lampard’s side survived that pressure before breaking the deadlock 10 minutes after the restart.
Jay Dasilva raced onto Rushworth’s long clearance and used a clever touch to cut inside Daniel Munoz.
He then calmly fired beyond the advancing Matz Sels to score Coventry’s first Premier League goal in more than 25 years.
Forest responded strongly, but Bobby Thomas produced a spectacular goal-line clearance to prevent Igor Jesus from equalising.
The hosts thought they had rescued a point with four minutes remaining when Jesus found the net after Caleb Yirenkyi went down inside the penalty area.
However, following a video assistant referee review, the goal was disallowed because Jesus was judged to have caused the Coventry player’s fall.
Coventry displayed tremendous discipline throughout the contest.
Matt Grimes worked tirelessly in midfield, while Ethan Pinnock and Thomas made several crucial interventions to protect their narrow advantage.
Dasilva’s winner was Coventry’s first top-flight goal since Mustapha Hadji scored in a 3-2 defeat by Aston Villa on 5 May 2001.
Lampard celebrated with the travelling supporters after the final whistle as his team climbed off the bottom of the table and moved into 18th place, above Fulham and Tottenham.
The result gave Forest manager Oliver Glasner plenty to consider.
His side attempted 24 shots - their second-highest total in a Premier League match since returning to the division in 2022 - but failed to score at home for the third successive league game.
Forest recorded an expected-goals figure of 1.15 compared with Coventry’s 0.67, yet their lack of a clinical edge proved decisive.
Delap, signed from Chelsea for £45m, failed to direct any of his four attempts on target.
Forest remain 12th, with their disappointing home form continuing to be a significant concern.
