Matheus Cunha struck in the final minute to rescue a 1-1 draw for Manchester United and deny Fulham their first Premier League victory of the season.
Lisandro Martinez’s unusual own goal appeared to be enough to hand the hosts all three points at Craven Cottage.
However, Cunha’s 20-yard effort took a heavy deflection off David Affengruber, wrongfooting goalkeeper Bernd Leno before finding the bottom corner.
The equaliser was particularly cruel on Leno, who had produced several impressive saves as United pushed forward late in the game.
Michael Carrick’s side avoided a third successive defeat but enter the international break in 12th place with five points from five matches. Fulham remain 19th after collecting only two points.
United gradually gained control following an even opening, with Bruno Fernandes hitting the post after being found by Cunha’s cutback.
Fulham responded strongly as Josh King and Oscar Bobb threatened at the other end.
Cunha also struck the woodwork when his deflected long-range effort looped over Leno and came back off the post.
Marcus Rashford then missed a good opportunity shortly before half-time, sending his volley over the crossbar.
The second half initially lacked intensity, but the contest changed when United goalkeeper Senne Lammens failed to deal with Calvin Bassey’s low shot.
Martinez’s attempted intervention then sent the ball into his own net.
United dominated after falling behind, with Leno making excellent saves to deny Bryan Mbeumo and Cunha.
Fulham appeared set to hold on, but Cunha’s deflected equaliser ensured the points were shared.
The late goal eased some of the pressure on Carrick following successive home defeats.
Although United were far from convincing, their strong finish meant they deserved at least a point and could arguably have claimed all three.
Carrick will now use the international break to prepare for a crucial run of fixtures, beginning against Tottenham on 10 October.
Fulham remain winless, but recent draws against Liverpool and Manchester United have offered signs of progress under Alvaro Arbeloa.
The hosts again produced some attractive football, with 19-year-old Josh King impressing and Alex Iwobi playing a key role in creating attacks from the left.
Iwobi created a match-high five chances without misplacing a pass.
With Leno performing well in goal, Fulham’s next priority will be helping new striker Gonzalo Garcia settle quickly and begin converting their encouraging performances into victories.
