Luis de la Fuente Signs New Spain Deal Until 2032 After World Cup Triumph

Spain's World Cup-winning coach Luis de la Fuente is set to sign a new contract that will keep him in charge of the national team until 2032, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced on Monday.

The new agreement will see De la Fuente lead Spain through the 2028 and 2032 European Championships, as well as the 2030 World Cup.

The 65-year-old took charge of the senior national team in 2022, replacing Luis Enrique, and has since overseen a remarkable period of success.

Under De la Fuente, Spain have won the 2023 UEFA Nations League, Euro 2024 and the World Cup, establishing him as one of the country's most successful national-team coaches.

Before taking the senior job, De la Fuente spent a decade working within Spain's youth setup, giving him extensive experience with many of the players who later progressed to the first team.

Rafael Louzan, chair of the Spanish FA's board of directors, described De la Fuente as the most successful head coach in the national team's history and said his long-term commitment to the federation had earned him an extended future in the role.

Spain will return to action on 26 September, travelling to face England in their first match since lifting the World Cup in July.

They will then host Croatia in Seville three days later to begin their Nations League campaign before facing the Czech Republic in Oviedo on 3 October.

Spain will complete the international window with an away fixture against Croatia three days later.
