Liverpool End Home Derby Losing Streak Against Everton

Beata Olsson and Cornelia Kapocs scored as Liverpool beat Everton 2-0 at Anfield, ending a run of five consecutive home defeats in Merseyside derbies.

Olsson gave Liverpool the lead in the fourth minute, darting ahead of Hannah Blundell to glance a corner past Courtney Brosnan.

It was the fastest goal in a Women’s Super League derby between the clubs.

Everton’s best first-half opening came when Hannah Cain fired over after Liverpool lost possession.

The visitors attacked with more purpose after the break, but Liverpool continued to create the clearer chances.

Vivien Endemann struck the crossbar, while Natalia Ramos was denied by Ruby Mace before sending another effort over.

Mace later cleared a Kapocs header off the line, and Liverpool goalkeeper Khiara Keating saved from substitute Holly McNamara.

Kapocs settled the contest with four minutes remaining, turning inside the box and driving a low shot into the corner.

The win lifted Liverpool above Everton into fifth place and gave the Reds consecutive victories over their city rivals for the first time since 2014.
