Manchester City Challenges Premier League Commission Ruling

Manchester City Challenges Premier League Commission Ruling

30 September 2026

Manchester City has announced its intention to challenge the decision of the independent Premier League commission, which found the club guilty of breaching financial regulations. The club expressed disappointment and surprise at the ruling, reiterating its innocence regarding the allegations and asserting—according to its statement—that it possesses evidence substantiating its position on every aspect of the case.

In a statement, Manchester City declared: "The club is innocent of the charges brought against it by the Premier League, and there is a comprehensive body of evidence supporting its position in this matter." The club affirmed it would utilize all available regulatory and legal avenues to challenge the decision, with October 2nd set as the deadline for filing an appeal.

Potential sanctions against Manchester City are set to be addressed in a separate hearing, meaning the current ruling does not mark the conclusion of the case.

The matter dates back to February 2023, when the Premier League leveled 115 charges against Manchester City regarding financial rule breaches between 2009 and 2018. The independent commission found the club guilty on the vast majority of the counts under investigation.
