Shrewsbury Town's proposed takeover by an American consortium has moved a significant step closer after the group received clearance from the Scottish Football Association over its interests in both Salop and Spartans FC.
The US consortium comprises Scott Davidson, Will Dotson, Craig Graham and former Liverpool, Tottenham and Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
The group has already passed the due diligence and financial tests required by the English Football League and the Independent Football Regulator.
The latest approval addresses potential dual-interest concerns surrounding Davidson's position as majority shareholder of Scottish League Two side Spartans, where Dotson and Graham are also involved.
The Scottish FA has approved the dual interests resulting from the proposed Shrewsbury acquisition, as well as Davidson, Dotson and Graham serving as directors of both clubs.
Spartans said the decision completes the majority of the regulatory requirements surrounding the takeover.
Current Shrewsbury chairman Roland Wycherley put the League Two club up for sale in 2024, but several attempts to secure new ownership have since fallen through.
Negotiations with one American buyer collapsed in March 2025 before a separate takeover attempt failed six months later.
Talks with Davidson's consortium have now been ongoing for approximately six months, with hopes that the deal can be completed before Christmas.
However, Wycherley has urged patience once the new owners officially take control.
Drawing on his three decades of experience running Shrewsbury, the 85-year-old warned that "time and patience" will be required as the prospective owners begin the next chapter in the club's history.
Once the takeover is completed, it will bring Wycherley's 30-year tenure as Shrewsbury Town owner to an end.
