Tevez Makes a Move
One of football fans' greatest dreams could become a reality before the curtains fall on the careers of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. After two decades of rivalry and brilliance, an extraordinary opportunity is emerging to see the two legends wearing the same team's jersey—a spectacle that could become one of the most iconic moments in the history of the sport.
The idea is being driven by former Argentine star Carlos Tevez, who aims to organize his farewell match at La Bombonera—the home of Boca Juniors—after missing out on a send-off befitting his career when he retired in 2022.
According to Spanish newspapers citing Argentine sources, Tevez has revived the idea, aiming to hold the match on December 20, 2026, amidst reports that he has secured the approval of Boca Juniors president Juan Román Riquelme.
During an appearance on an Argentine television channel, Tevez outlined details of the anticipated event, expressing his desire to bring together some of the biggest stars he played alongside during his career.
"It would be amazing; I need to speak with Román to arrange it for the end of the year," he said, before listing prominent names such as goalkeepers Gianluigi Buffon and Edwin van der Sar; defenders Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidić, Giorgio Chiellini, and Leonardo Bonucci; as well as Andrea Pirlo, Paul Scholes, and Riquelme.
However, the biggest surprise came when he discussed the possibility of Messi and Ronaldo playing together, asserting, "We’ll put them on the same team." He added, "I’ll go get Cristiano myself," signaling his determination to recruit the Portuguese star alongside "the little one"—as he referred to Messi.
Tevez shares a special footballing bond with both legends; he played 47 matches alongside Messi for the Argentine national team and 80 matches alongside Ronaldo during their time together at Manchester United. While the idea remains in the planning and discussion stage, Tevez’s success in uniting the two stars on the same team would offer fans an extraordinary spectacle and write a final chapter to the most famous rivalry in modern football—though this time, far removed from the battle for goals and trophies.
