Good News Before the Big Clash
Manchester City has received a significant boost ahead of its highly anticipated match against Liverpool. Manager Enzo Maresca confirmed the status of Norwegian star Erling Haaland, stating that he is fit to play in Sunday’s Premier League fixture at Anfield.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Maresca explained that Haaland has regained his fitness following the international break and is ready to feature in the challenging encounter against Liverpool.
The Italian manager discussed the atmosphere expected at Anfield, acknowledging the likelihood of a passionate reception from the home crowd, yet he emphasized the need for his players to focus on the pitch, noting that their performance on the field is the one aspect they can control.
Maresca added that he feels a sense of anxiety before every match—whether against Liverpool or Ipswich—stressing that competing in such high-profile games was a key reason he chose a career in coaching.
The 46-year-old manager aims to maintain his perfect start with Manchester City, having won his first five Premier League matches; a victory over Liverpool would mark a sixth consecutive win and a historic achievement, placing him among the select group of managers to have enjoyed such a start in the competition.
Maresca is embarking on his third stint with Manchester City, having previously worked in the club's academy and served as an assistant to Pep Guardiola; he was part of the coaching staff during the 2022–2023 season, which saw the team secure the historic Treble.
