The Spanish coach is proud of his team after United's quadruple
Cuomo's coach Cesc Fabregas revealed that he asked his players to reduce the pressure on Manchester United during their humiliating (4-1) defeat in the Champions League, yesterday, Wednesday.
Como was four goals ahead of Michael Carrick's side when Fabregas ordered his players to conserve energy ahead of Saturday's Serie A match against Sassuolo, British newspapers reported.
United scored a late goal through substitute Joshua Zirkzee, and Fabregas admitted he was angry with himself for not embarrassing his rival further.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder said: “I regret the last ten minutes because I was the one who asked the team to slow down the pace of play because there was another match, and when the score was 4-0 we could control things a little.”
He added: "I asked the players to stop running and stay in the middle, and this is what I regret because I was the first to urge them to fight until the end. Their goal hurt me because we retreated in our enthusiasm and retreated in our defense, but the mistake was my fault."
He continued: "I am very happy with the way the players implemented everything we tried to do, not only in terms of quality, which was high, but also in terms of the way we were pressing relentlessly until the 85th minute."
He continued: “We are trying to create a culture in the club, a playing style and an identity. Tonight was another convincing moment for us.”
Fabregas pointed out: "I cannot lie to you that the victory over Manchester United was not a source of pride. We know the history of our club, and how much it has suffered over the years. It goes without saying that I hope that all the boys and girls will wear a Como shirt tomorrow when they go to school. I feel proud."
He added: "I always tell young people: Have fun, fight, do everything to achieve the best possible career for each of you, because it goes by quickly."
He concluded: “They made me enjoy tonight, but not so much for the win, but for the result, because they played the way I like my team to play, with faith, quality, a clear mind, aggression, and fierce pressure.”
