Bobb’s Late Strike Earns Fulham Victory at Coventry

Oscar Bobb produced a moment of quality to give Fulham a 1-0 win at Coventry City and secure successive Premier League victories.

With neither side showing much cutting edge, Bobb settled the contest late on by slipping past a defender inside a crowded penalty area and curling a superb finish into the bottom corner.

Fulham’s first away league victory in nine matches lifted them to 12th on eight points, two clear of Coventry, who remain 19th.

The visitors came closest to breaking the deadlock before half-time when Josh King struck the crossbar. Alex Iwobi was unable to turn in the rebound from close range.

Coventry’s best attacking moments largely came through Brandon Thomas-Asante, whose pace helped launch several counter-attacks, but the hosts struggled to turn those breaks into clear opportunities.

Fulham also appealed for a penalty shortly before the interval after Thomas-Asante dragged Calvin Bassey down inside the box.

Their claims were rejected because Bassey was judged to have pulled his opponent’s shirt first.

Coventry suffered another setback on the hour when Bobby Thomas was forced off through injury.

The defender has been one of their stronger performers during a demanding start to the campaign.

The hosts continued to threaten in bursts, particularly during a spell of second-half pressure, but their lack of precision proved costly.

Bobb eventually supplied the decisive finish, earning Fulham another three points after their victory over Hull last weekend.

Coventry’s Scoring Struggles Continue

Frank Lampard’s side again paid the price for failing to make promising attacking positions count.

Coventry have scored just six league goals this season, four of which came in their victory over Newcastle.

Against Fulham, they generated only 0.5 expected goals.

They also failed to score before half-time for the seventh time in eight league matches, leaving themselves with more work to do after the break.

Although their counter-attacking approach caused Fulham occasional problems, the final pass or finish repeatedly let them down.

Even a sustained spell of attacks in the second half failed to produce a breakthrough.

After recovering from a difficult opening to record consecutive wins, Coventry have now suffered defeats against Tottenham and Fulham.

Their next fixture against bottom club Sunderland offers an important opportunity to respond.

Fulham Build Momentum Despite Attacking Concerns

Fulham’s results are improving under Alvaro Arbeloa, although their performance showed there is still work to do.

Having taken only two points from their opening six league games, they have now beaten promoted sides Hull and Coventry in successive matches.

Arbeloa’s team controlled possession, finishing with 64% of the ball, but struggled to turn that advantage into meaningful chances.

Their total of 0.55 expected goals reflected a match in which neither attack consistently threatened, despite Fulham spending long periods in control.

Ultimately, Bobb’s individual skill provided the breakthrough.

The performance left room for improvement, but another victory gives Fulham a stronger platform after their slow start.
