Spurs Hit Four to End Losing Run

Tottenham ended their three-match Women’s Super League losing streak with a clinical 4-1 victory at Birmingham City, moving up to fourth in the table.

Julie Blakstad put Spurs ahead before Olivia Holdt and Signe Gaupset struck within three minutes of each other after the break.

Neve Herron pulled one back for Birmingham, but Victoria Pelova’s late finish secured the points.

The victory brought relief for Martin Ho’s side after defeats by Arsenal, Chelsea and London City Lionesses, during which they conceded 14 goals.

It also marked a milestone for Tottenham captain Drew Spence, who overtook former Chelsea skipper Millie Bright with a record 217th WSL appearance.

Birmingham made a promising start, with Oceane Hurtre shooting narrowly wide before Lee Geum-Min forced Lize Kop to tip an effort onto the crossbar.

Tottenham gradually found their rhythm, and Matilda Vinberg struck the underside of the bar following a scramble inside the penalty area.

The breakthrough arrived in the 37th minute after Birmingham failed to clear. Sophie Baggaley pushed away Gaupset’s lob, but Cathinka Tandberg gathered the loose ball, composed herself and set up Blakstad to finish.

Holdt doubled the advantage five minutes into the second half, curling a superb free-kick into the net from the edge of the area.

Gaupset added a third moments later, driving a precise effort into the bottom corner to put Spurs firmly in control.

Herron offered Birmingham hope by cleverly turning a corner home at the near post, but the hosts could not build on that response.

Pelova settled the contest in the 84th minute with a low finish from inside the box.

Birmingham struck the crossbar again in stoppage time, but their unbeaten home record came to an end as Tottenham celebrated a much-needed return to form.
